JD's email Letter...

JD received this email, and he read it on the air today...We have received an outpouring of requests for it to be posted, so here it is. Please note this is not the ACTUAL, but rather a retyping of it by me as JD didn't still have the email in his folder. Thanks!

Date: December 3, 2006
Fllight 1904 ORD-MIA
Captain Jeff Wallace
First Officer Gary Blied

We were informed at the gate that the remains of MSgt Shawn Richardson would shortly be loaded on our flight for the trip to Miami. He was a 17 year veteran of the United States Air Force and had been killed in the service of our country. I went down onto the ramp and found the long box appropriately stationed off to the side in a luggage cart. The curtains on the cart were pulled. I spent a few moments in prayer with him.

The Captain and I finished our preflight duties and then went down onto the ramp, checked it with the crew chiefs to observe the loading of MSgt Richardson. We departed almost an hour late due to our late arrival into Chicago.

We called for a push and it was immediately granted. Normally there is a wait. We called for ground taxi and again- immediately granted. Normally there is a wait. We were cleared onto the runway and for an immediate take off. Passing through about twenty five thousand feet we were further cleared direct OMN (Ormand Beach) which is the first fix on the arrival to Miami. Not a word was ever said, but people were watching out for us.

The flight to and landing in Miami were uneventful, until we went to turn off the runway. The tower asked us to proceed a little further down where an escort was waiting for us. We did as instructed and a Miami Dade Police cruiser met us on the taxiway. He escorted our American Airlines Boeing 757 to the D terminal. The entire North ramp had been cleared of all aircraft.

As we approached we noticed the lights. There were at least a half dozen fire trucks and no less than 15 police cars and countless other vehicles. They were all parked in rows with their lights flashing. As we taxied our aircraft to the gate, the fire trucks saluted our arrival with crossed streams of water shooting over the aircraft.

We parked the aircraft and shut down. After our checklists, Captain Jeff Wallace and I went down to the ramp level and observed the unpacking of the casket, then the dressing with the flag. It was accepted by the Honor Guard which was comprised of members of the Miami Dade Police Department and Air Force Honor Guard.

After the "present arms" order (when all military and former military render salutes and civilians put their hands over their hearts) and the "order arms" order, when the salutes were finished, I noticed our jet. As I looked up from the ramp level I saw a face in every window. Not one of our passengers had moved until our fallen soldier had departed the aircraft.

When the procession left the airport, there were two cruisers in front of the hearse and I have no idea how many behind. It was worthy of a Presidential motorcade and a fitting and probably all too uncommon show of love and respect for one of our fallen.

And in case I haven't mentioned this previously- it was 1:30am, and I would bet that most of the people on our ramp were not on the clock.

Every now and then you see it: the silent majority that makes this country the best in the world. I was so proud that night. Proud that my felow citizens on every level worked to get MSgt Richardson to his final repose. Proud of all of the people that showed up on the ramp that early Saturday morning to show their respect.
Proud that American Airlines knows how to handle this situation with humility and honor.

As you go through your day, remember that there are thousands of men and women overseas in the service of our country, far from home and in dangers way. Please remember that they have families back here who live every day in fear of the phone call or visit with the news that their worst nightmare has come true.

Be thankful of their efforts and if you know someone who is in the service- get their address from their family and write to them and thank them.

Gary Blied,

Pilot, American Airlines

Major, USAF (ret)

Holiday Parking Lot Rules...

Here they are again! The rules to live by when parking during the holiday season:

1. If you pass an open spot, you cannot back up, once passed it is a free space again!

2. If only going to your car to put away packages you must let cars following you know that you are not leaving!

3. When you get into your car to leave please do so in a timely manner...2 minutes!

4. NEVER take up more than one spot...this is just rude!

5. When two cars are waiting for the same spot, the car that arrived first gets the spot. EVEN if the car backing out blocks the car that arrived first from entering right away!

6. If you pull into an open spot and the one in front of it is open there is no pulling through, this can cause accidents!

7. No backing into parking spots, period, end of story!

8. If two people arrive at the same spot at the same time, the first to use their turn signal has the right to the spot!

9. Going the wrong way in parking lots with one way signs is strictly prohibited.

10. When waiting for a person to leave their spot, please give them enough room!

11. You are responsible for your own shopping cart, please return it to the proper place! Not doing this can damage other cars!

12. No holding up traffic while following pedestrians to their vehicles in the parking lots!

13. Be considerate of the other cars that you parking next to!

Photo's from Brooks & Dunn

Hello! I took a bunch of pictures on Sunday night at the B&D show, all of Jack Ingram, and Sugarland! They were both great, I didn't really get any pictures of B&D, but of course they were really good too! JD is out due to a thrown out back today, which can sometimes throw us as well because we don't do alot of the regular stuff (battle of the sexes & and now you know), but today we decided to do it anyway! Later this week we will have Daryl Worley on the show too!
Enjoy the pics!

SUNDAY!!!

Lots of interviews today, lots of pictures too..check out some of them! We will be airing a lot of the interviews from the weekend tomorrow, and Tuesday, but just to give you an idea of what has been happening...we are in a ballroom with about 40 other stations, and all of us have been doing interviews for the last couple days. I can only imagine what it is like for the artists to have to talk about the same thing over and over again, so we try to find stuff that they normally don't talk about...The broadcast provides us with what are called "talking points", but everyone gets those, so I will try and check out other stuff as well. Tomorrow morning JD has me going over to the Good Morning America Broadcast site where Sugarland will be performing!! That and we will be playing interviews for you and llots of other stuff too...ssee you then!

CMA'S!!!

Well it is that time again, and we are headed off to the CMA Awards in Nashville. This is always a great time, but there is alot of prep involved too.
We need to send out our equiptment for the broadcast, and make sure that it is all there prior to our arrival. We use alot of JD's equiptment, so he has all of the cases and cables, wires and everything else that he has to bring in to the studio so that we can send it out from the station.
We leave on Friday after the show, and then when we arrive there is a mandatory meeting to make sure that everyone understands what will be happening over the course of the broadcast. Usually after the meeting we will have a press conference with a big country artist, and they usually will perform at least one or two songs.

Our broadcast will begin on Saturday, and we will be recording interviews for Mondays show...We probably talk to about 20 artists a day...some new, some veterans, and usually a few big big stars too. JD will be on the red carpet too! This is going to be a great year to watch it because it is the 40th anniversary, so there are sure to be some great surprises. I will be posting lots of pictures while we are there, so check back often!

Also, thanks for all the emails I have been getting about my surgery. The recovery has been alot better than I thought it was going to be, and the results are awesome! If you want more informaion about my surgery, or the surgeon please feel free to email me at wirkmeg@hotmail.com

See you in the morning!

Post surgery!!

As I am sure you have heard by now, I have been doing some commercials for Estetica Institute. I had my breast enhancement procedure done on Friday (yes, friday the 13th!), and am recovering really well!

The staff at Dr. Rankin's office are all sooo nice! I have had surgeries in the past, and every time I come out of recovery I would be crying! A long time ago a doctor suggested to my mom that she bring in a stuffed animal or something that would remind me of the comforts of home...ever since then I always brought my little dog scooter with me! The reason I am telling you all of this is because I thought FOR SURE they were going to laugh at me about my little dog, but they didn't! It was quite the opposite actually, they made sure that scooter was right next to me so that he wouldn't get lost!
I was really impressed with the way they treated me, when we got into the operating room, the staff promptly put an electric blanket on me so I wouldn't get cold, and then put these sleeve like wraps on my calves that gave me a massage! WOW!
My anesthesiologist took the time to make sure I understood what was happening, and was very gentle with the IV for me...I was only awake in the operating room for a few minutes, and then poof I was in recovery! It was really cold in there too, so the nurses gave me another blanket to make sure I was warm enough!

Friday was pretty much a blur, I would wake up, take my medication, and then go back to sleep, Saturday there was pain, but not to the great extent that everyone was saying it would be, Sunday I was still pretty sore, but I was able to take a shower (WAHOO!), let me tell you that was an adventure all its own! Today I went for my first follow up with Dr. Rankin, and he showed me these excersises that I have to do four times a day...it was a little painful the first few times I am not going to lie, but he said that I was doing great, and I get to have my stitches out on Friday yay!

I am serious when I tell you that if you are thinking about cosmetic surgery, you need to set up a free consultation with Dr. Rankin at Estetica Institute, I am putting the link to their website up here. Based on my experience with them so far, I have been SOOO impressed.

More later, but for now I need a nap!

Hello!

Not much to report this week.

I have been really busy with school...work...trying to get the new house all in order and out of boxes! My mom is in town for the next week, and she is so excited to be able to listen to the show...in the past when she has come to visit it has been over a holiday, or weekend, and so she hasn't been able to listen in. There really isn't anything like having your mom or dad be proud of you! Bill is out on vacation, so once again I am responsible for the news...great first impression for mom! Ha!

This week I have a real sweetheart of a dog looking for a home...

Missy is a 1 year old female Pointer mix. She is spayed and great with other dogs. Missy is very active and loves to play. She’s housebroken and has had some obedience training. (ID# A120463)

You will find her at the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, in the domes on Military Trail just North of Okeechobee. Their phone number is: 561-686-3663.

For those of you who purchased tickets for the Phil Vassar concert at the Hard Rock this past Tuesday, you can get refunds at point of purchase because the show has been out right cancelled. If you won tickets then you don't have to wait 30 days to win again, but we apologize for the show being cancelled.

We will have Carolyn Dawn Johnson in the building next week to talk about her new album....Can't wait!

Talk soon!

Old Stuff, and New Stuff too!

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! As you know we had a beading class at Crystal Creations Bead Institute a few weeks ago, and I finally have the pictures!! If you were at our little get together, and you want a copy emailed to you, just email me at wirkmeg@hotmail.com. I am posting a few here though, and we all had such a great time...Lets do it again soon!

This past Friday night was the Toby Keith show, and while the show itself was great, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed when Toby brought out a guest that sings in his new movie to sing a song...up until that point the momentum of the show was great..hit after hit, and the SCREECH! It came to a halt...Mitch says that it is so they can sell more beer, but it was just a let down for me...Joe Nichols was awesome, and overall I would still say the show was good, but not one of my favorites. I am posting a few pictures from that show too!

Football season is just about officially here, and I think I am going to head up to Pittsburgh for the season opener against the Dolphins..It should be a good game, and the entertainment of Rascal Flatts, and Martina McBride will make it worth the trip all by itself!

JD is out this week...he's at home painting, and putting up crown molding...a little hard physical work is good for him I say...just don't tell him that!

Mitch is helping us out this week, and Captain Tim is filling in for Mitch! Sometimes it may feel like "who's on first"!

Have a great week!

This week we auctioned off Shaq's autographed jersey for JD's Sneakers for students, and got $3500 for it!! The money all goes to the charity, and I am sure will buy a bunch of shoes for kids that need them. Bill comes back from vacation on Wednesday...not a day too soon for me!

Sneakers for Students

We have announced our annual "JD's Sneakers for Students" campaign, and Alonzo Mourning from the Miami Heat has helped kick it off well by donating game worn apparel for auction, and 50 pairs of sneakers from Nike! Dwayne Wade donated 50 sneakers from Converse too, but we still need many many more. We will be auctioning off Zo's shoes on Friday starting at 8am and ending at 9:30am, next Tuesday we will be auctioning off Wade's game worn, autographed jersey next Wednesday the 2nd of August from 8am until 9:30am, and then Shaq's autographed game worn jersey on Friday the 4th of August from 8am until 9:30am. Listen in to find out what we raise, and if you want to donate check out the JD and the Wake Up Crew web page for details!

Tiny is back from vacation, and so things are getting back to normal...whatever back to normal is!!

Channel Five news came into the studio today to film us about the Sneakers for Students campaign, and they stayed for about half an hour asking questions, and monitoring what was going on in the studio. It's funny because when you watch the bit on the news, it only lasts for about 2-3 minutes, just showing you the wonderful world of TV editing!

Lots of interviews this week, so tune in, and we will see you in the morning!

Women Win!

Well the women won Battle of the Sexes AGAIN!! This means we will have to come up with a challenge for JD to do...hmmm!

This week is flying by! I went out with a sales person yesterday to a new client "Creative Creations", also known as Beads Gone Wild! We are putting together a class just for our listeners to attend, and you will have to win it. Each person that wins will get to attend the class with me, and get their own kit to design a piece of jewelry..Fun!
We are working out all the details, and will start it soon.

I also visited another client today, and we discussed me endorsing their buisiness...more details soon, but I am very excited about this because it involves something that I have been thinkng about doing for a while now.

Our annual Song of the Day contest is getting ready to kick off again, and for all of you out there you know what that means...
a new car will be awarded to the person who wins the correct key to start the car! More details on the car are coming, but this is an awesome contest that draws a ton of people.

I have been talking with the my friends over at the animal rescue league about their annual "Fur Ball" It is next saturday night, and is for a great cause that I hold close to my heart...the animals of course! You can get information on their web site: www.hspb.org.

That is really all for now, we're talking to Vince Gill later this week so be sure to tune in and find out what is new with him!

See you in the morning!

Schedules!!

Well, my vacation is over, JD is back, and so now that leaves Tiny and Bill to take their vacations!

Tiny will be out next week which means we all have to pitch in to cover him...NOT an easy task. Tiny answers the phones when listeners call to try and win a prize, make a comment, request a birthday, and sometimes (very rarely of course) when listeners call to complain too! In addition to that he is responsible for making sure Battle of the Sexes questions are all set up, and he really is the link between the sales staff, promotion staff and us! He does a bunch more, but this is just a little of what Bill JD and myself will cover while he is out.

Bill will be out on Monday too, so that means I get to do the news! I am still not seasoned at this at all so I always ask that people have patience...you will find my news usually will contain big breaking stories, but then a bunch of entertainment type stuff, and of course sports (I love it!). By the time August gets here we will be back to normal, but for now...hold on!

Don't forget JD's "Big Thank You"...It is an opportunity to say thanks to someone who has touched your life in some special way, and maybe you were never able to say thanks in the unique way you wanted to. Panera Bread is our sponsor, and they provide gift certificates to the ones we read on the air! Just go to our web site, click on JD and the Wake Up Crew, and scroll down for all the details.

Well, I am off to Detroit this weekend to stand in a friends wedding, but will return on Monday...see you in the morning!

Vacation!!

Well, I am on vacation this week, but I wanted to post some of the pictures from the Gretchen Wilson show at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino last Thursday night.

Gretchen put on a awesome show, and even played some rock tunes!! She sang Heart's "Barracuda"...if you weren't seeing that it was her you would have thought you were really listening to Heart!

I know we are a Country station, but I listen to everything, and Friday night Kelly Clarkson put on a terrific show too...She played at the Ampitheater to a packed house, and the crowd was definately not disappointed. I am have put a picture or two up from that show too.

We have finally put everything together for the 4th of July, and some of the on-air saff will be at your favorite places for the fireworks...

Mitch, Bill, Tiny, and JR will be out giving reports after 6pm on the 4th, so listen in to find out where everyone will be!

Finally, have a safe and happy fourth of July, and I'll see you next week!

This Week...

This week is going to be crazy!

We will be talking with Gretchen Wilson about her show at the Hard Rock on Thursday, and Josh Gracin is going to tell us about his guest appearance on The Young and the Restless soap opera. Did you happen to see the story on the news last week about the radio DJ in Iraq that is being compared to the likes of Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam? Well, JD worked like crazy to get her, and we'll be talking to her (yes her) later this week too! I am working with NBC to get one of the judges from America's Got Talent...They have some really funky interview times, so I am not sure that it will work, but we are trying!

Aside from all of this, we have been putting together a way to let a listener go up in a helicopter to watch the 4th of July fire works at one of the displays in the area of their choice...We wanted to tie it in with fire works too, and now that all of the "fires" (haha get it?) have been put out...well listen as the week goes on to find out how you can get your chance! I rode in a helicopter not too long ago when we gave a listener a ride to work in one, and the view was amazing!!
Good Luck!

Last weeks "bush race" at Truck and Trailer USA was a great one, and thank you to TTUSA and all of you who came out...It was a blast! We will have pictures on the site this week, but being that it was the official "Bring your dog to work day", LuLu came out with me, and when she wasn't begging for some Panera Bread stuff, she was getting all the love she could muster out of our listeners!
I have attatched a picture of her!!

see you soon!

Out Sick

Holy cow!! I was only gone for 2 days, and I feel like I missed SOO much!
I have been playing catch up like crazy today!! Sales people needed me to cut commercials for them, and not to mention we have the annual "Bush" race out at Truck and Trailer USA tomorrow mornin' too! When we have off site stuff like this we basically have to literally put "the show on the road", commercial logs (tells us what commercials are supposed to play when, music logs (what music and when), traffic stuff, news stuff, plus everything we need to do the actual race...cordless microphone, headphones, regular microphones, and sooooo much more. Thank goodness we have an awesome Promotions staff to help us out, or it wouldn't get done!! Tomorrow night I will be out at the Palm Beach County Boat Show at the fairgrounds from 5-7pm. Stop by, I promise I am not contagious anymore!!

I heard the show at Friendly's was awesome, and hope all that were lucky enough to attend enjoyed themselves, and had a Fribble too!

We'll catch up soon, I will have pictures from tomorrow...it is sure to be a great time!!
Truck and Trailer USA is just East of the Turnpike on Southern on the North side. If you get to the Shell gas station you have just missed the small signs to turn in.

Hope to see you there!!

Well here it is Wednesday, and the Heat finally won a game!!! WAHOO! The guys are giving me grief because now that the Pistons are out, I am of course going to root for the Heat, and they think that is wrong...I disagree!!

It was great to meet some of our listeners at the Anchor Inn Lakeside on Saturday night for the Cabo Wabo Tequila party...good times! We'll have to do this again, and I will post the NON-incriminating pictures later!

Thank you to all who came out to the first annual WIRK golf tournament. It was a great time, and for those of you who missed it because you think that you can't golf...well shame on you! This isn't about your golfing abilities, it was about having fun! We'll have it again next year, so you can join us then!

For any Days of Our Lives fans, you know that Kayla and Patch have returned to the show, and I have used my magic contacts to set up an interview with Patch! I have been talking with NBC, and they finally came through. We'll let you know when it will be on, but keep an ear to your radio!

This weekend I'll be out at Al Packer Ford East on Saturday (6/17), from 11am until 1pm. Stop by and say hello!

Later!

FRIDAY!!!

Happy Friday everybody!!

This week has flown by, and this weekend will be just as fast I think. Tomorow we have the first annual WIRK YeeHaw Open golf tournament, and it is sure to be a blast!
We had a staff meeting on Wednesday to discuss where everyone will be.

Tiny will be manning the first hole called "Walking Tall", I will be on the "Moonshine" hole with a couple marines :), Bill will be taking care of the "Cowpie" hole, JD will have the "Buckshot" hole, JR Jackson gets the "Toilet Bowl" hole (haha and he wanted to know how that happened!), and Dave Michaels gets the "camoflage" hole! As you can see this is NOT going to be your average round of golf! Other holes include the NASCAR hole, Redneck woman, Road Kill, and even a Chaw hole! We all have our assignments, and it isn't too late for you to get signed up! Call 561-964-4653 for details.

Don't forget I will be at the Anchor Inn on Hypoluxo Road Saturday night (9:30-11:30pm) for a Cabo Wabo tequila party...We will be giving away tickets to see Sammy Hagar, and the Cabo Girls will be there too!

JD announced his new "Big Thank You" segment on the show yesterday with Panera Bread stopping in to help kick it off. To find out how you can be a part of it click on the link below, and copy and paste it in your web browser:

Tim and Faith show!!!

What a great show!! Tim and Faith were great. Here are some Pictures.
Before the show, Tim and Faith did a small performance for a select group of lucky fans.
They answered some questions, and sang a couple songs before they had to get ready for their show.

Don't forget the YeeHaw open is this Saturday, and it promises to be nothing short of a really fun time!

Saturday night I will be at the Anchor Inn on Hypoluxo for a Cabo Wabo tequila party from 9:30 to 11:30pm. Be sure to come out and say hello! The Cabo Wabo girls are rumored to be attending, and what a great way to end the day after the YeeHaw golf tournament...plus the Heat will be playing!!

Rascal Flatts Concert!!

Wow what a show!!
Last night Rascal put on a show that was nothing short of great!
I was supposed to take Gary fishing again like last year, but due to their flight arriving into West Palm late we were unable to go, so I met up with the guys at the meet and greet!
I don't know how they keep it all together...there were at least 100 people that went through the meet and greet...it was definately more a see and leave. The new way that the management runs the pre show activity is an assembly line. You walk up, they take your picture, the guys say hello, and then you receive a card with your picture in it and the guys have all signed it before you even arrived!
After the show some friends and I stayed to visit, but it was late so we went over to Palm Beach to Cucina, where they played some country music for all of us that were at the concert...It was funny to see some of the customers that had know idea what they were listening to try and keep up!
I will have more pictures later, but these are just some that we took at the show!

Back!

Well Vegas was alot of fun, but at last it was time to come home.
I met JD at 1:20am Wednesday morning to go do the broadcast at KLUC, our affiliate station in Vegas. We picked up Bill from Hooters, and we were on our way! The broadcast went well, and at 7am it was time to head to the airport to come home. Bill and Mitch were flying on a seperate flight, and JD and I's flight was delayed...of course it was, we were flying into Chicago, and if you know anything about O'Hare airport...well lets just leave it there!
Bill and Mitch's flight left pretty much on schedule...let me tell you Bill almost didn't make it AGAIN because they accidentally cancelled his return flight home! JD and I got into Chicago with 45 minutes to spare until our next flight left...yahoo! things were looking good! UNTIL!!!
We boarded the plane, and the stewards were asking everyone to hurry because there was some bad weather coming and we needed to try and leave as soon as possible to avoid it! People didn't listen, and we wound up sitting on the runway with about fifty (yes fifty!) other planes waiting for almost two hours to get the clear to take off!! UGH!
We finally got into WPB around 12:30am, and after waiting for luggage, realizing they lost one of my bags...filling out the proper forms, and getting home it was after one. Sleep was the only thing on the docket for Thursday...and JD agreed!

I hope you all enjoyed the interviews from Vegas.

Have a safe holliday weekend, and tune in next week as we try and return to some sense of normal again... whatever that is!

Vegas...drained!!

What a day yesterday!! Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Trick Pony, Grettchen Wilson, Big and Rich, and many more too! Toby Keith was supposed to come by, but he was running late for rehearsal so he couldn't get to us...maybe next time!
Bill and I can't believe JD snuck backstage to catch a sneak peak at the set for the ACM awards...shady is his new nick name!!
Listen this morning as we will be broadcasting from our sister station out here in Vegas, and then flying home later...It will be a late one, and we will all be running on just about NO sleep by the time Thursday morning gets here.
Here is the Vegas money update: Bill broke about even, JD lost (AGAIN...imagine that...hee hee!), and Mitch isn't talking! What... you really think I am going to admit to anything?!
We will be posting some great pictures when we get back...hope you have enjoyed hearing from all your favorite stars from Sin City USA!!

Vegas!!

Well JD, Mitch, and myself have all made it to Vegas, but Bill had some trouble so he will be getting here later tonight! I am at Hooters...Wow! Never thought I would be able to say that I stayed here! Tonight JD will be going to see KA, a Cirque de Solei production, and I will be meeting up with friends in from LA to check out a new nightclub..rumor has it that Janet Jackson might be hanging out with us (I know she's not country...).
Tomorrow we will have meetings about the broadcast, and get everything set up to broadcast live to you on Monday morning!
Listen Monday as we will be live from the MGM Grand, and I will have moved over to the MGM hotel where it is not so orange! More secret sound on Monday too, so listen in, and I will give you more updates about everything going on here later....See ya!
